Multiverse School Newsletter - 06/02
🚀 6/2/24 Multiverse School Weekly Newsletter 🚀
Hey Multiverse Crew,
I have moved into my new place! OMG it is SO NICE to have my own place with an actual lease and no consistent roommates only the chaos that I willingly invite into my place. Speaking of chaos I am willingly inviting into my place... we're running 2 conferences.
We've got Multiverse West from 7-1-24 - 7-22-24 and Multiverse East from 7-22-24 - 8-7-24 coming up! Basically we're descending on San Francisco (Multiverse West) and Miami (Multiverse East).
We'll attend a large number of salons and talks, run our own events, present some projects we built to people, and try to get networked. We'll fully take over the AI scene across the nation (or in 2 cities at least.) Also, hugs. So many hugs. Details on the individual pages- if you still have curriculum access it means you're explicitly invited. Email me if you want to come and don't have access.
Don't forget:
Families in Gaza need our help.
By the way the next cohort for Prompt Engineering begins June 17 It's Monday and Wednesday at 2pm Pacific, 5pm Eastern.
If you're taking any two classes, this is a reminder that you should probably just do the all-you-can-attend membership.
Multiverse Students Looking for Work
Everyone here has learned the cutting-edge Gen AI stuff we teach here, but now they're looking for work! Not everyone here has a network and could use your help! Please do me a favor and help these folks out with some introductions! You can hire them away BUT you are depriving me of their brain so it better be for a lot of moolah.
- Gene Hwang : Jr. Dev and Researcher looking for Data and Backend roles. Gene is our most prolific TA who is absolutely instrumental to me in keeping eyes out for new Gen AI research.
- Razi Alawamleh : Looking for Front-End (React & React Native) and Back-End work, Gen AI, Prompt Engineering, and does a great job with Product thinking.
- Cameron Sweeney : Looking for Back-End (Python, Math and Stats), Data, Gen AI, Prompt Engineering,
- Kellyn Von Arx : Looking for UX, UI, and Product design, Gen AI. Has some Python & Git experience, some Prompt Engineering experience
- Roan A Caws : Looking for CyberSecurity Red Team (pen testing) work, Gen AI work, working with me on The Swarm of Hacking AIs, has Python and CyberSecurity in spades, and TAs at The Multiverse School
- Liss McCabe : Senior developer, looking for full-stack work in Ruby, Python, React, Gen AI, Prompt Engineering
This Week's Classes
Monday-Thursday @ 9am Job Search Standup
- Is on this week. Sign up here
- Let me know here if you got a job, it helps me out and makes me want to keep doing this.Â
I may cut this for a few weeks in the summer, as it has low attendance and I would like to stay up later hacking on stuff into the night.
Monday-Thursday @ 9:45 Project Standup
Sign up for the next one here. or be a Multiverse Member. $60 for a 2-week project run.
Monday
Intro to Python @ 10am Pacific
Basics of Object Oriented Programming Classes, Methods, etc
Intro to Python @ 1pm Pacific
Practical OOP concepts. OOP is a big topic, it's something you'll gradually gain by experience. This class focuses on the most commonly useful.
Tuesday
Intro to Python @ 10am Pacific
Back to the Recipe App, your Final Project You'll work on this all day!
Complex Adaptive Systems & Game Theory (it's a podcast)
The reading for this month is Complex Adaptive Systems - Part 3: Computational Modeling Chapter 5: Computation as Theory
We will record this week! It is only available to current full-time Multiverse Traveler Program students and faculty.
Wednesday
CyberSecurity @11am with Liz
Continue to hack the planet. Not a great place to jump in if it's your first time, we're working on something with a fair amount of prerequisite knowledge.
2pm Transformers from Scratch
Teja Sunku is walking us through Transformers (robots in disguise... no wait, I mean machine learning Transformers) by coding them from scratch, and covering all the prerequisite topics in a fun and engaging way that everyone (including Teja) would describe as "unhinged", which is very on-brand for The Multiverse. It is only available to current full-time Multiverse Traveler Program students.
6pm Storytelling and Narrative Alignment with Francina
Francina has a sacred duty to help you don some plot armor and write yourself a new tale. This will help you with prompt engineering. It is only available to current full-time Multiverse Traveler Program students.
Thursday
Senior Devs - A Deep Dive
I just ran a python bootcamp for 1.5 weeks, an eternity in the Singularity. Let's catch up with the singularity together. Bring the papers you read or want to read, let's dig in together. I want to dig into RepE later this week and perhaps during a body doubling sesh on Friday or something, but no promises.
The Roof is for Feelings @ Noon with Liz
If you've been going through it- either in your personal life, or when you Learn To Code, or if you're doubting that you're smart and wonderful, this is open to anyone who attends any class at The Multiverse School, for as long as you need to attend. Even if you aren't a paying member anymore.
Upcoming Tracks and Classes
Next Prompt Engineering Cohort Begins June 17
If you missed some classes or wanted to start, the next sequence is going to be Mondays and Wednesdays at 2pm Pacific, 5pm Eastern.

AI Tutorials and News
But first, The Drama: Remember when Sam got Fired? Recently, Sam Altman fired his whole superalignment team and many other safety researchers are quitting over lack of compute for their research. It's up to all of us now. The Board Members are speaking out stating that Sam is Deceptive and Chaotic, surprising no one who has ever worked at a YC-Backed company.
Thankfully we've gained some ground on AI Safety Research - safe.ai is doing really cool inference-level alignment with control vectors - I particularly liked this post so we're gonna have to try this out after the Learn to Code classes conclude. This is what Robert Miles had to say a year ago on this, I am Glad He's Back.
