Multiverse School Newsletter - 02/18

February 18, 2024

Hey Multiverse Crew,

Last week I got sick, and we had to drop someone for hate speech. As a result I've updated the Code of Conduct. Free Palestine. Down with Colonialism everywhere.

Also, I have updated themultiverse.school - newsletters are now online, and we have a framework to publish classes, research, and other things! Stay tuned.

Job Search Standup

Don't forget to join the Job Search Standup every day at 9:00 AM. This month 5 people got contracts or jobs! Things are moving forward, and looking up. Refer your friends!

Let me know here if you got a job, it helps me out and makes me want to keep doing this.

Program Updates

We’re working on a new format & pricing structure for the various groups. If you’re currently enrolled, no worries, nothing will change for you. For new folks, we’re rolling out different pricing structures for Full-Time Software Engineering, Part-Time Graduate Students, and Executive Leadership & Management. This means if you’ve been worried about the pricing of attending The Multiverse School, you might want to have a new conversation with Tag by emailing tag@themultiverse.school

Learn to Code Bootcamp This Summer

I'm grouping everyone who needs to learn to code together this summer. We'll do a very structured walkthrough of the basics. I've got a page together describing the bootcamp program - those of you who want to do a whole cohort program around learning to code from scratch can sign up there. We still have a unified application for all programs, so if you want to attend, check the "Learn To Code" box on the main application in order to apply.

Are you an executive?

I need your input on when you could meet. A lot of you aren’t looking for a full-time program but you want to be able to run your own AI-based workforce. I’m moving some of this content to the evenings to accommodate those of you with jobs or startups.

Machine Learning

The plan last week was to go over Web Scraping, and I was out. I'll check in this week to see where we're at as a group, it seems like we're still working on data cleaning and gathering. If you haven’t gathered a dataset yet, we’ll go over Web Scraping in a little bit more detail.

Artificial Intelligence and Agents

Tool Use, and Retrieval-Augmented Generation are the main topics this week, as far as I know, unless everyone just figured it out while I was out. If not, we'll dig into Langchain Tools specifically, write one, and then equip an agent with it. If we get the time we'll build a self-equipping agent that writes it's own tools.

Complex Adaptive Systems and Game Theory

Read Part 1 (to page 33 of the book) of Finite and Infinite Games. Read chapter 3 and 4 of Game Theory - you do not need to deeply understand all of the math, but it may help to understand Bayes's Theorm in order to follow the math more easily. This week we'll film conversations related to this, but it won't be a full episode. We'll film the next "full episode" next week so everyone has time to catch up.

Storytelling

Francina will be out this week due to Chaos. Buy her books to support her through Chaos, they are in earnest Very Good Books and you and several other folks would enjoy them.

CyberSecurity - The Wargames are Heating Up

Scourge may get renamed, but that doesn't mean it's moving slowly. Capabilities emerged last week that I didn't see because I was out. Blue Team will need to set up several goat (purposefully insecure) target networks as red team target practice, and to generate logs from which to train the Blue Team AI that might Save The World. This class is why I am always Excited and Terrified for Monday. Hack the planet~

Operational Automation for Community Organizers

More low-code no-code automations happening this week. If you haven't got some of your pipelines automated, come to class! It's body doubling, automation consulting, and workflow design all in a handy-dandy place.

Junior Devs:

We didn't finish our game! Oh no! Our timelines are completely blown! Good thing we don't have clients waiting for this work or a marketing deadline to hit. Let's finish up our game and begin planning the Agent Chat Room in Senior Devs.

Senior Devs:

Last week we talked Delegation, this week we'll Plan An App together (it's going to be the Agent Chatroom). Tuesday, we'll do Technical Requirements Definition, which should help you pass a Systems Design Interview. Thursday, we'll do Roadmapping and define the Metasystems that need to be built within the Paradigm. Junior devs are welcome to watch and we'll record the process, but Senior Devs don't come assuming you can just watch- this will be an active conversation.

Research Teams:

Currently I have the following projects on my radar. Some are personal, some are group projects. Generally what I've noticed is that Senior Developers begin projects and recruit Junior Developers. I might lift the requirement that non-masters' students need to begin their own projects.
